How to Create a Self-Care Haven at Home

Practising self-care doesn’t have to be time-consuming or complicated. There are several ways in which you can indulge in self-care to look after yourself, whether it is your emotional, physical, or mental well-being. In fact, by prioritising yourself and giving yourself the care you need, you can be the best version of yourself for your loved ones and your community. And to start this journey, it is important that your home is equipped to be a comforting space for your self-care practice. Here are a five ways in which you can create a self-care corner in your home that will help you de-stress, relax, and rejuvenate.

Declutter

Clutter can be overwhelming. Start with decluttering your space, especially the one designated for self-care. Minimalism can bring a drastic improvement in your self-care practice. KonMari method by Marie Kondo suggests you pick each item and ask yourself if it ‘sparks joy’ for you. If not, donate or give away.

Let the Daylight Come in

Natural light positively impacts your mood and is more energising than when you sit and work in a gloomy corner. Ensure your space gets enough natural light by rearranging furniture to get the best spot to soak in Vitamin D.

Include More Greens in Your Home

Indoor plants like fiddle leaf, fig tree, bamboo, or snake plant not only filter the air but can also improve your mood. The meditative and rewarding act of gardening is one of the best self-care at-home hobbies.

Surround Yourself with Arts and Crafts

Give your space some personality with artwork or objects that you like and make you feel happy. Building your collection doesn’t have to be complicated: simple additions like colorful cushions and rugs, cute souvenirs from your travels, and framed prints are enough to liven up the room.

Design a Self-Care Nook

A cosy space needs just a few simple tweaks. Light your favourite scented candle, keep the room well-ventilated, and put together your favourite snug blankets and cushions. You could also customise the space based on leisure activities you prefer, like music, reading, dancing, yoga, crafting, or journaling. Try to keep your work-from-home space separate from your self-care sanctuary.

Self-care is simple and possible. Through consistent practice and some well-thought-out additions to your space, you can begin your self-care journey today!
